KEPSA participated in Reflective Session on What is in your Mind – Reflection on Climate Change and CoP 27 organized by the Danish Ambassador to Kenya, H.E Ole Thonke, on 3rd November 2022, at the Ambassador's Residence in Muthaiga.
The event brought diverse stakeholders from the private sector, government, civil society, international organizations, youths, and the media. Over a sustainable dinner, guests shared what was on their minds regarding climate change and the upcoming Conference of Parties of the United National Convention on Climate Change - COP27. The reflections focused on communicating climate change, adaptation, mitigation priorities, youth action, communication, and awareness regarding climate change and its impacts in Kenya.
As the world gathers in Egypt in Sharm El Sheikh to collectively address the triple planetary crisis through ambitious climate actions, a recurrent reflection among the guests was the urgent need for ACTION for especially local solutions and readily accessible climate finance to support and increase resilience. There is a need to include small and micro enterprises and local communities, especially the YOUTH, in conversations on climate change, resilience, and adaptation so that they can define and sustain solutions.
The business voice is also crucial as businesses make most adaptation-related investment decisions. Directing investments to address climate solutions will provide sustainable climate solutions. Kenya contributes less than 0.1% of global greenhouse gases but significantly bears the impact of the climate crisis and experiencing the worst drought in more than four decades. As a country, Kenya is a frontrunner in green energy and mechanisms to combat deforestation and can be an inspiration for other countries in the region in these areas.
KEPSA was represented at the meeting by Mr Bill Lay- KEPSA Trustee, and Ms Faith Ngige – KEPSA/Climate Business Information Network – Kenya.
