On July 22, 2024, a landmark conversation unfolded between the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) and Ecotourism Kenya, centering on the potential for collaborative ventures and innovative future initiatives. This pivotal meeting aimed to explore how the two organizations can merge their efforts to champion sustainable tourism and enhance environmental stewardship throughout Kenya. With a mutual commitment to embedding ecological principles into economic activities, the dialogue was a crucial step in aligning KEPSA’s substantial private sector influence with Ecotourism Kenya’s deep-rooted expertise in fostering eco-friendly practices.
Present at this significant discussion were Mr. Victor Ogalo, Deputy CEO of KEPSA, and Dr. Jackson Koimbori, Senior Circular Economy and Climate Change Coordinator at KEPSA. Their contributions were invaluable, bringing a wealth of knowledge in private sector dynamics and climate resilience. From Ecotourism Kenya, Ms. Lynnet Kamonde, Acting CEO, and Ms. Mary Kimeu, Membership and Events Coordinator, played key roles. Their perspectives on sustainable tourism practices and strategies for member engagement added depth to the conversation and were instrumental in pinpointing actionable collaboration opportunities.
The dialogue highlighted several key areas for joint action, including the development of initiatives to advance sustainable tourism practices across Kenya. Discussions also covered the creation of eco-tourism certification programs and the promotion of circular economy principles within the tourism sector. Both KEPSA and Ecotourism Kenya demonstrated a strong dedication to leveraging their unique strengths to support sustainable development goals, enhance environmental conservation, and invigorate local economies through responsible tourism practices.
Looking to the future, KEPSA and Ecotourism Kenya plan to establish a robust collaborative framework. This will involve launching shared projects, providing mutual support in policy advocacy, and organizing joint events aimed at raising awareness about the benefits of eco-tourism. Through this partnership, they aspire to drive significant advancements in integrating ecological sustainability into Kenya’s tourism industry, setting a benchmark for responsible tourism that could inspire similar efforts globally.
