KEPSA and the Shippers Council of Eastern Africa (SCEA) on 22nd March 2023, joined the Trade Mark Africa (TMA) for a stakeholders luncheon at a Nairobi Hotel. TMA has been working closely with Government agencies and partnered with KEPSA, SCEA and several other private sector organisations to implement various interventions to improve Africa's trade, transport, and logistics.
The stakeholders luncheon was graced by Ms. Allen Asiimwe, the TMA Deputy CEO, and Chief of Programmes, the Council, and the Board of Trademark Africa. Discussions at the luncheon focused on the state of transport and logistics, the challenges, progress made so far, and opportunities for further interventions and greening, inclusivity, and digitization.
KEPSA Deputy CEO thanked TMA for extensive investments in logistics infrastructure and emphasized that the work ahead now needs to focus on ensuring we have goods to transport on the trade corridors that TMA has heavily invested to bring to competitive conditions. He, particularly, called for more support to spearhead Public-Private Dialogues with this administration to safeguard the gains we have made in ensuring a conducive business environment in the past and work more on the competitiveness agenda. He also noted that KEPSA will be reaching out to its partners to develop interventions for increasing Kenya’s competitiveness in exports, focusing more on drivers of export competitiveness such as cheaper raw materials; affordable and stable provision of utilities like energy, water, and communications; competitive logistics; labor productivity and ensuring access to affordable long-term financing for businesses.
Mr. Ogalo, further called upon the members of the Mombasa Port and Northern Corridor Community Charter, with the support of TMA to consider renewing their commitments to the Charter, and given that the Charter was signed and championed by the President of the former Administration, it ought to be anchored at the Office of the President for closer monitoring and visibility.
