KEPSA, led by the CEO Ms Carole Kariuki, today, 19th March 2025, joined key stakeholders at the kick-off of the 2nd Climate Change Global Business Summit on Africa in Nairobi. The two-day event, which brings together over 150 CEOs, economists and influential figures, aims to raise global awareness of the private sector’s role in tackling Africa’s most urgent climate challenges.
The event is an annual, action-oriented international business platform dedicated to the African continent. It was conceived in the aftermath of the Africa Climate Summit to promote closer collaboration and foster dialogue between the public and private sectors to effectively address the disruptive consequences of climate change.
"The opportunities are here and we are ready to partner with the international community in the fight against Climate Change through sustainable agriculture and green investments." Said Hon. Aden Duale, Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change & Forestry, during his keynote address. He also highlighted Kenya’s progressive policies in climate governance, particularly the amendments to the Climate Change Act and the implementation of Carbon Markets Regulations.
Africa has taken a bold step in the climate action agenda. However, key priorities like enhancing public-private partnerships, capacity building, climate finance mobilization, policy implementation, community engagement and robust monitoring mechanisms need to be actualised. These efforts are crucial in ensuring sustainability and resilience as the continent strives to address climate challenges and unlock new opportunities for green growth.
“We must align investments and public policies with this vision, accelerating partnerships and removing barriers to create a sustainable future for all. Climate Change is not just an environmental issue, but a global responsibility. Africa is rich in resources but is poised to lead the green economy, with its vast potential in renewable energy.” Said Ali Mohamed, Special Climate Envoy for Kenya; the Executive Office of the President of Kenya.
In her opening remarks, during the CEOs’ View session, Ms Carole Kariuki emphasized the importance of embedding accessibility and policy alignment in business operations to foster growth and reduce carbon emissions. She highlighted strategic partnerships and public-private collaborations as crucial for supporting clean energy initiatives and innovative financing solutions, including green hydrogen and circular economy practices.
The event is organized by The European House – Ambrosetti in collaboration with leading public and private stakeholders. It will continue tomorrow with key discussions and speakers including Wamkele Mene, Secretary General, African Continental Free Trade Area and Hon. John Mbadi, Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury and Economic Planning
