Yesterday marked a significant milestone in Kenya’s journey toward a sustainable and inclusive future with the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) participating in the development and launch of the National Green Growth Index 2023. This momentous occasion underscored a pivotal step in Kenya’s quest for sustainable development. Distinguished guests, including Dr. Malle Fofana from the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), Mr. Odhengo Peter from the Climate Finance and Green Economy Unit, Dr. A. Korir Sing’Oei from the State Department for Foreign Affairs, and Dr. Eng. Festus K. Ng'eno from the State Department for Environment & Climate Change, gathered to celebrate this significant achievement. Representing KEPSA was Dr. Jackson Koimbori, the Senior Circular Economy and Climate Change Coordinator.
The event highlighted the collaborative efforts that culminated in the creation of the Green Growth Index, an innovative tool designed to guide Kenya’s transition to a low-carbon, resource-efficient, and inclusive economy. Dr. Koimbori emphasized that the index is not merely a metric but a strategic instrument that aligns with global frameworks like the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement. The Green Growth Index is tailored to address Kenya’s unique environmental and economic challenges, serving as a roadmap for sustainable development.
KEPSA's involvement in developing the Green Growth Index has been substantial, and as the apex body representing the private sector in Kenya, KEPSA’s insights have ensured that the Index reflects the perspectives and priorities of businesses across the country. Our role underscores the necessity of public-private partnerships in advancing the green economy agenda. By incorporating feedback from various sectors, the Index will help assess the effectiveness of green growth policies and investments, providing a benchmark for Kenya’s progress in comparison to other nations.
Looking ahead, KEPSA remains committed to advancing Kenya's green growth agenda through innovative projects and strategic partnerships. Our focus will continue to be on climate change mitigation, promoting circular economy principles, and fostering sustainable business practices. By leveraging the collective expertise and resources of our members, we aim to make tangible progress toward a greener, more resilient economy. The Green Growth Index will be a critical tool in measuring our success and identifying areas for further improvement.
The launch of the Green Growth Index 2023 is a significant milestone in Kenya’s sustainable development journey. KEPSA is dedicated to supporting this green growth transition through robust partnerships and strategic initiatives. With the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector representatives, and international partners, we have a unique opportunity to drive significant progress and build a prosperous, inclusive, and environmentally sustainable future for all Kenyans.
