KEPSA participated in the launch of the Nairobi Land Justice Working Group on February 5th, 2024 at the Ceremonial Hall, Milimani Law Courts. The event themed, ‘Expediting Land Justice through a People-Centred Approach” Recognizing the need for a more streamlined and effective approach to handling land-related matters.
The establishment of the Land Division within the Environment and Land Court aims to improve case management efficiency and enhance the effectiveness of adjudicating land disputes. In her remarks, the Chief Guest for the event Hon. Justice Martha Koome, Chief Justice (CJ), and President of the Supreme Court of Kenya, noted that the Court had decided to address land and environment challenges by fostering engagement, collaboration, and cooperation with stakeholders, giving an example of Nairobi she pointed out that the Land Division in the county faced unprecedented, systemic, and endemic challenges due to the intricate and diverse land tenure system in the city, compounded by the issues associated with rapid urbanization.
The CJ concluded her remarks by launching the Nairobi Land Justice Working Group, as part of the solution to streamline the land and environment challenges in the county. The working group tasks include;
KEPSA has a seat on the technical committee signifying a collaborative effort to build a fair, efficient, and equitable framework for addressing land-related issues. The collaboration between the public and private sectors is a positive step towards fostering dialogue and understanding. It reflects a shared commitment to finding sustainable and equitable solutions.
