KEPSA participated in the global launch of the Red Card Campaign: Raising a Red Card to all forms of Discrimination Against Women and Girls held on 16th December 2022 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, U.S.A.
The launch was organized by the African Renaissance and Diaspora Network (ARDN) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in collaboration with the Africa Bureau of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women).
The campaign envisions leveraging stakeholders and the convening power of the 2022 World Cup to build and mobilize communities, coalitions and other stakeholders to commit to ending all forms of gender-based discrimination, violence and harmful practices, and to uplift and empower women and girls to be torchbearers leading the way towards a world that is equitable and sustainable, where no one is left behind.
Among the key interventions of the event included voices from; H.E. Bineta Diop, Special Envoy of the African Union Commission Chairperson on Women, Peace and Security; Ms Aissata M.B. Camara, Deputy Commissioner, Policy & Strategic Initiatives, and Chief of Staff, Mayor's Office for International Affairs, New York City, United States of America; Ms Maimunah Mohd Sharif, Executive Director, UN-Habitat; Hon. Epsy Campbell Barr, President Designate, United Nations Permanent Forum of People of African Descent; Dr Triphonie Nkurunziza, Africa Team Lead for Reproductive, Maternal Health and Ageing in Universal Health Coverage World Health Organization (WHO); Ms Chantal Yelu Mulop, Special Adviser to the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo; and KEPSA represented by Ms Gloria Ndekei, KEPSA Foundation Executive Director and Ms Zuhura Odhiambo, KEPSA GBV and Mental Health Lead.
The localized launch of the Red Card Campaign in Kenya is set to take place on 10th March 2023.
