KEPSA, represented by Economic Diplomacy Sector Board Chair Mr James Mureu, participated in the Czech-Kenyan Business Forum which was held on 6th and 7th November 2023 in Nairobi on the occasion of the working visit of the Czech Prime Minister, H.E. Petr Fiala. The event, which was hosted by the Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic, presented an opportunity for Kenyan business leaders to engage with Czech industry leaders in various sectors of the economy.
During the opening session on 6th November 2023, the Prime Minister, H.E. Petr Fiala noted the long-standing cooperation between the Czech Republic and Kenya, adding that Kenya has been and continues to be a very important partner of the Czech Republic. “Our companies can succeed in the modernisation of the local army, as well as in the development of the health, pharmaceutical and water sectors. We want to open the doors to the Kenyan market even more for our companies,” said Prime Minister Fiala.
In his remarks, Mr Mureu gave a perspective into opportunities Czech companies could tap into including manufacturing, agriculture, retail, logistics, transport, and green energy. “Opportunities before us lie in the business-led integration of Africa. We have seen African businesses integrating, driving change, and overcoming geographical, political, economic, and logistical barriers. Collectively, we must continue to support such integration and multinational expansion of businesses in Africa," he said.
On the 7th of November 2023, the business forum continued with B2B meetings between Czech and Kenyan companies in the security, health, and energy sectors. The session was led by Eng. James Mwangi – KEPSA Director in charge of Energy and Professional Services. He moderated the session where he introduced the sectors and sold Kenya as a ready-for-investment country while encouraging Kenyan business leaders to organize a reciprocal visit to the Czech Republic.
Also present at the event were Mr George Aluru, Energy Sector Board Chair together with his Vice Chair Mr John Njogu; Dr Tim Theuri, Health Sector Board (KHF) Vice Chair, Mr. Cosmas Mutava, Security Sector Board Vice Chair and Violet Nyando representing the Agriculture sector.
