On 27th April 2023, KEPSA as an implementing partner of the GCF NAP Readiness Support project, joined the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, the National Treasury and Economic Planning, the Council of Governors, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and other strategic partners in a meeting to hand over climate data and information systems supported by the GCF NAP readiness project that took place at the National Climate Change Resource Centre. The KEPSA Vice Chair of Environment, Water and Natural Resources Sector Board, Dr. Wandaka received the KEPSA information system on behalf of KEPSA.
The GCF NAP readiness support project was implemented by KEPSA, the National Treasury and Economic Planning as the national designated authority, the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry (Climate Change Directorate), and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock. In a bid to enhance climate data and information management efforts at the institutions and counties, one of the key activities of the GCF NAP Readiness Support Project, was to equip climate change coordination units with ICT equipment for improving climate data management capabilities and contribution to the country's climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts. KEPSA implemented component four of the project.
The Principal Secretary of the State of Department of Environment and Climate Change Eng. Festus Ng’eno, in his address, celebrated the major milestones through collective efforts in laying the foundation to address climate change in the country. He thanked the Green Climate Fund's National Adaptation Plan Readiness Support Project for providing state-of-the-art ICT equipment to enhance climate data management capacity noting that the infrastructure and capacity built through the project will go a long way to improve the institutional ability of the recipient organizations to collect, manage, and share climate data. He concluded by thanking the private sector for their continued partnership and urged more synergies while calling upon FAO to support the government to develop more projects. The project has been a success and is expected to positively impact both government and private sector through KEPSA’s operations and the country's overall climate resilience.
The FAO GCF NAP Readiness Project Manager Dr. Thecla Mutia expressed gratitude to the private sector, government, implementing partners and stakeholders for their contribution and support for the successful implementation of the project stating that it was one of the readiness projects that was implemented fully. The successful project implementation was a demonstration of the commitment of implementing partners Including the private sector and Kenya as a whole in building a sustainable environment. The meeting ended with a handover session where the recipient organizations and entities received IT equipments to support their reporting.
