Nairobi, Kenya - 8th March 2024: The Deputy Government Spokesperson Ms. Mwanaisha Chidzuga today joined the Private Sector Flood Response Initiative team led by KEPSA, through its social arm, KEPSA Foundation and Team Pankaj Foundation in distributing food and non-food items to over 400 households affected by floods in Mathare North.
Speaking during the handover exercise at Heidi Marie Primary School, Ms. Chidzuga thanked Mathare residents for obeying the evacuation orders from flood-prone areas to designated safe areas. She reiterated the government’s commitment to provide full support to the affected families in collaboration with other partners like KEPSA Foundation and development partners.
“We are here to condole with those of you who lost their loved ones but at the same time encourage you to take note of the alerts and advisories by the government to be safe. The government, through the Ministry of Health, is currently working to ensure that it provides mosquito nets and drinking water disinfectants to prevent disease outbreaks, especially in camps.”
On her part, KEPSA Foundation Executive Director Ms. Gloria Ndekei thanked all partners for their generosity and the residents for being calm to allow the distribution exercise to continue peacefully. She also noted the need for all stakeholders to work together in finding solutions while stating that the flood disaster has not only affected many Kenyans but also other people across the globe.
