KEPSA Foundation, in collaboration with Chandaria Foundation and Team Pankaj Foundation stepped in the Countryside to extend a helping hand to the residents of Maiella Ward, Naivasha Constituency, whose livelihood had been affected by the recent floods. The team donated assorted food and non-food items on 23rd May 2024. The donation exercise was graced by Hon. Jayne Kihara, the community leadership, KEPSA Foundation Executive Director Ms. Gloria Ndekei and representatives from Team Pankaj Foundation.
During the food distribution, Ms. Ndekei expressed gratitude to private sector members who answered the call for a joint flood response initiative, particularly acknowledging the contributions from Chandaria Foundation, Team Pankaj Foundation, Nitu Shah and Oewa.
She further noted her recent appointment and that of other private sector members to the National Steering Committee on Disaster Response by H.E. President William Ruto. She stressed the private sector's commitment to pooling resources for national emergency response efforts and highlighted the importance of tree planting to combat climate change.
In her remarks, the area Member of Parliament, Ms. Jayne Kihara, expressed gratitude to the private sector for making the initiative possible. She urged her constituents to comply with government directives to relocate from flood-prone areas. Additionally, she noted that the flooding in Mai Mahiu resulted in the loss of 64 lives, and caused significant damage to farms and roads
The event saw the donation of various food and non-food items that included maize flour, cereals, utensils, jikos, solar-powered d-light lamps, bar soaps, mattresses, and clothes to over 500 residents of Maiella Ward and 75 orphans and vulnerable children in Mercy Care Children's Home that has been affected by the floods.
This donation forms part of an ongoing collective effort by the Kenya Private Sector Alliance Foundation and private sector members to address the devastation caused by floods. It is the latest in a series of initiatives, with similar donations having been made in Kibera, Mathare, Githurai, and Korogocho areas of Nairobi.
