Today KEPSA on behalf of the private sector engaged in a consultative meeting with the Danish Embassy and other donor partners on forging pathways for future collaborations with the private sector. In attendance were esteemed figures such as Ambassador Stephan Schonemann of Denmark, Chairperson, Professor Anne Mette Kjær from the Department of Political Science at Aarhus University, Vice Chairperson and Deputy Director of CONCITO, Jarl Krausing, and Head of Global Development and Sustainability at the Confederation of Danish Industry (DI), Marie Gad. The assembly also included notable representatives from various organizations such Ministry of Environment Kenya, the Ministry of Treasury, and KAM, each bringing their unique expertise to the table.
Led by Dr. Jackson Koimbori, the Senior Circular Economy & Climate Change Coordinator, representing the private sector, the meeting served as a platform to illuminate the rich tapestry of partnerships between KEPSA and the Danish entities. Notable engagements such as the Business Sector Programme Support-II (BSPS-II) and Circular Economy for Green Growth initiatives exemplified the symbiotic relationship fostering sustainable development.
The thematic sessions unfolded with vigor, each offering a nuanced exploration of critical themes. In the first session, stakeholders delved into partnerships for climate action, dissecting major challenges and opportunities across sectors like renewable energy and conservation. Through insightful discussions and shared initiatives, participants gained a deeper understanding of actionable pathways toward realizing Kenya’s climate ambitions.
Transitioning to the role of the private sector, the second session spotlighted the Danish private sector's presence in Kenya. Discussions ranged from the collaboration between Danish companies and Kenyan partners to DI’s capacity-building programs and value chain approach. The dialogue facilitated an exchange of perspectives on navigating the dynamic business landscape, fostering a climate conducive to sustainable growth and innovation.
The final thematic session resonated with urgency, focusing on Kenya's democratic space. Delving into civil society, human rights, gender equality, and the fight against corruption, participants confronted the multifaceted challenges shaping Kenya's socio-political landscape. Through candid exchanges, they underscored the imperative of fostering an inclusive and transparent governance framework to empower marginalized voices and uphold democratic ideals
