KEPSA VISITS NBST/NGARA PROJECT SITE

On 2nd April 2024, the Sports, Arts and Culture Sector Board visited the NBST project in Ngara, led by the Chair Ms. Carol Warui. The The NBST/Ngara project is a comprehensive urban revitalization initiative aimed at transforming Ngara, a historically significant but overlooked area in Central Nairobi, into a vibrant hub for creative, entrepreneurial, and innovative communities. The project spans from 2022 to 2025, with Phase 1 already underway as of Q1 2024.
Key elements of the project include:
- Existing Context: Ngara's location, accessibility, and proximity to educational institutions make it an attractive destination for redevelopment.
- Vision: To leverage Ngara's potential by integrating public and private investments, ensuring affordability, inclusion, and sustainability while preserving its historical character.
- Development Timeline: Ngara has experienced phases of prosperity and decline, with the NBST initiative aiming to reverse the latter trend through capital acquisition, aggregation, pedestrianization plans, and adaptive reuse programs.
- Programs: The project emphasizes the development of agile pedagogical frameworks, inclusive learning experiences, and partnerships with educational institutions to foster growth and innovation.
- Creative District: Ngara is envisioned as a home for creative energy, with spaces for various industries, startups, and cultural activities. The project aims to provide a range of amenities and infrastructure to support this vision.
