KEPSA, through the Jiinue Growth Program, today completed the inaugural two day's investor readiness training at Kalya Hotel, at Kapenguria in West Pokot, attracting 37 young participants. The program was designed to equip local entrepreneurs with the skills on financial literacy and management as well as information needed to attract investment and scale their business skill.
In the opening remarks, Ms. June Mwangi, KEPSA Technical Assistant Lead, walked the participants through the KEPSA profile and mandate, clearly highlighting the role of KEPSA in supporting businesses and entrepreneurs. She outlined the importance of officiating one’s business through registering the business name or obtaining business permits and licenses which is the first step to unlocking existing business opportunities. Ms. Mwangi additionally emphasized the importance of financial transparency, particularly when a business receives investment from funders. “It is important to ensure the financing received is directed to improve the business and not personal needs.”
Building on this, the session transitioned into a detailed training on in-depth business knowledge and record keeping, facilitated by Evans Ogonda and Humphrey Diang’a. The trainers highlighted the "Business Model Canvas (BMC) and Big 3" financial documents—balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow—and demonstrated their practical preparation and relevance. By connecting financial record-keeping to business sustainability, the trainers ensured participants have a hands-on understanding of how these documents reflect a business’ financial health.
This focus on documentation and financial literacy reflects KEPSA’s ongoing commitment to uplifting small businesses. Through the Jiinue Growth Program, KEPSA continues to offer local entrepreneurs the tools and knowledge necessary to foster sustainable growth and secure investment, further contributing to economic empowerment in the region.
