On Tuesday 31st January 2023, the KEPSA Security Sector Board led by the Chair Ms. Annette Kimitei presented the Private Sector’s views and recommendations incidental to improved terms and conditions of service and welfare of police and prison officers, to the police reforms task force at the Bomas of Kenya.
Speaking during the session, Ms. Kimitei noted that there is a big opportunity for the National Police Service and Kenya Prisons to partner with KEPSA under the Ajira Digital Program to digitize some of the processes within the units, that are still conducted manually.
Further, she noted that it is important to acknowledge and celebrate security officers because of their daily heroic work, so as to encourage them and motivate them.
While commenting on mental health matters, she called for more psycho-social support to police officers, to avoid the rampant cases of suicide and murders within the security forces.
The final report of the task force, which is receiving recommendations from several stakeholders, will have a great impact not only on the welfare of officers of the National Police and Prisons Service but also on the security of the country as a whole.
