KEPSA is actively driving tangible progress in sustainability through strategic partnerships, impactful policy advocacy and the exchange of critical knowledge, all to cultivate a greener and more inclusive Kenyan economy. This commitment was demonstrated by KEPSA's participation in the Community Workshop on Sustainability, held on 14th and 15th May 2025 at the University of Nairobi.
Convened by the Africa Centre of Excellence on Sustainable Operations for Resource Management and Food Supply (SCO) alongside key regional and international partners, the workshop focused on "Sustainable Business Practices for Inclusive and Resilient Socio-Economic Growth." This significant event brought together influential leaders from academia, government, the private sector, and civil society, fostering a dynamic exchange of knowledge and strategies for achieving impactful sustainability outcomes.
The workshop featured a keynote address by Hon. Lee Kinyanjui, Cabinet Secretary for Investment, Trade and Industry. He emphasised the critical role of sustainable business practices in achieving Kenya’s economic goals and aligning national priorities with international frameworks such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). According to the Cabinet Secretary, collaboration between the public and private sectors is essential to accelerate inclusive growth and ensure environmental stewardship.
Representing KEPSA, Dr. Jackson Koimbori—Head of KEPSA Consult and Senior Circular Economy and Climate Change Coordinator—took part in a high-level panel discussion focused on sustainability leadership in business. Dr. Koimbori shared that KEPSA continues to champion private sector-led innovation in climate-smart solutions and circular economy models. He emphasised that sustainability is becoming increasingly central to business resilience and competitiveness, especially in the context of global environmental and economic shifts.
Dr. Koimbori also noted that KEPSA has been at the forefront of SDG implementation since their global adoption in 2015. He announced that KEPSA is now intensifying efforts to build capacity in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices through targeted training programs. One such initiative is the upcoming ESG training session scheduled for 29th May 2025, which is open to all private sector stakeholders. Registration details for this training are available on all KEPSA social media platforms.
He added that the workshop sessions were particularly valuable in strengthening cross-sector dialogue and identifying practical strategies for integrating sustainability into business operations, especially in sectors such as agribusiness, logistics, and supply chain management. KEPSA reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to promoting sustainability through strategic partnerships, policy advocacy, and knowledge-sharing initiatives aimed at fostering a greener and more inclusive economy.
