On 3rd March 2022, KEPSA participated in the SME Support Centre Cocktail Party that was held at the Nairobi Serena Hotel. During the event, the SME Support Center launched SME Blue Pages, a digital platform that aims to showcase all the “Made in Africa Brands” and ultimately show the world Africa’s innovation potential.
The guest speakers in the event included Ms. Eva Muraya – KEPSA Director in charge of Gender and SMEs; Mr. Kebour Ghenna – Executive Director, Pan African Chamber of Commerce; Mrs. Ron Osman Omar – Officer in Charge Industry and Trade Division, African Union Commission; and Dr. Eric Rutto – Vice President of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI).
In her remarks, Ms. Muraya pointed out that an informed SME ecosystem that is well networked and aware of opportunities will thrive and contribute substantially to job creation and the development of the economy. She noted the importance of supporting SMEs to scale up their entrepreneurial ecosystem in Africa using simple, localized and sustainable solutions while adding that these initiatives should be resiliency-focused to ensure SMEs are in a position to survive any unforeseen disruptions.
The event brought together all the key players in the SME ecosystem from government, various chambers of commerce, industry associations, trade commissions and private sector for deeper interaction, engagement on all the SME Support Centre initiatives and adoption of a more ecosystem-wide approach to scale some of the innovative tech solutions they have developed.
