On February 17, 2024, the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA), Ag. Deputy CEO and Global Director of Youth & Jobs, Dr. Ehud Gachugu took part in the launch and press conference for the 5th edition of the Water Electricity and Power Expo (WEPEX). The conference is set to take place from 3rd to 5th September 2025 at the KICC, Nairobi, Kenya.
The three-day conference is set to involve stakeholders from over 10 countries, especially from sub-Saharan Africa creating a platform to share ideas and best practices with the world's leading players in the Water, Electricity, and Power industries. The event will offer;
During the launch Mr. Andrew M. Kinyua, Director of Natural Water Resources; Ministry of Water Sanitation and Irrigation said, “We want to partner with the private sector to offer solutions in the water, electricity, and power sectors, through Public-Private Partnerships. The private sector can invest in the provision of affordable decentralized water waste solutions”
Dr. Ehud Gachugu, Ag. Deputy CEO and Global Director of Youth & Jobs highlighted the importance of the; Water, Electricity, and Power industries in the economy, especially in job creation for tech-savvy young people in Kenya. “The WEPEX 2025 conference comes at an important time, especially with the aspirations of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in exchanging ideas for value for the overall transformation of Africa,” He also highlighted the importance of the conference in providing a forum for tackling challenges by highlighting cutting-edge technologies in water treatment, water management, renewable energy, and environmental protection all which are key areas of interest for the private sector in Kenya, “collaboration between government, private sector, and international partners is key in addressing the challenges in our water, electricity, and power sectors,” said Dr. Ehud
During a press briefing held after the event, he further spoke about the role of the private sector in business readiness. KEPSA has championed this is through programs such as the Jiinue Growth program in partnership with Mastercard that provides investor readiness training for SMEs in the country and the USAID-ERRA program that aims to facilitate 160 Kenyan Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), particularly those owned by women and youth, to leverage opportunities in the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Other notable figures present during the meeting include; Mahmoud Jarrah - Secretary General - of the Arab Union and Cynthia Muhati the Chief Executive Officer, of the Kenya Renewable Energy Association (KEREA).
