The KEPSA Sports, Arts and Culture Sector Board, led by the Chair Ms. Carol Warui, participated in the final round of the Kenya National Youth Chess Championship 2024 that was held between the 5th and 9th of April 2024 at Mangu High School. The championship also sought to celebrate the diversity of Kenya's youth, bringing together participants from various backgrounds and communities under a common platform, promoting sportsmanship and fair play and instilling values of integrity and respect in competitive environments.
The event also aimed at facilitating learning and growth among participants, not only in chess skills but also in essential life skills such as perseverance, discipline, and resilience, which was another significant objective.
In the championship's last stage, the top ten players from each of the 12 categories competed. These finalists were chosen from a preliminary contest that attracted over 5000 participants in grades 5 to 9. The championship provided a platform for identifying and recognising talented youth players, potentially paving the way for their further development and success in chess.
The championship goes beyond winning titles; it empowers young minds, celebrates diversity, and promotes fair competition.
