KEPSA participated in the inaugural stakeholders forum on legislative and policy reforms on 12th September 2024 aimed at advancing consumer protection, investments, trade, and manufacturing in Kenya. Hosted by the Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry (MITI), the forum aimed to kickstart a public participation process that will collect proposals to inform the reforms that seek to revitalise the business sector and create a competitive business environment.
The Ministry was led by the Cabinet Secretary Hon. Salim Mvurya; Principal Secretaries Juma Mukhwana (Industry), Alfred K'Ombudo (Trade)and Abubakar Hassan (Investments). KEPSA was represented by Doris Olutende, PPD Manager.
During the forum, the ministry invited members of the public, traders, manufacturers, investors, experts, the private sector, civil society, professional bodies, academia, religious groups and other stakeholders to submit proposals on the following:
“In the last two years, the country has witnessed increases in foreign direct investments (FDl) and Domestic Direct Investment (DDI). However, it has been noted that we still have constraints in the investment climate and business environment with a focus on the cost of doing business in the country,” said Hon. Mvurya during the forum.
The proposals received will inform the formulation and development of legislation and policies by MITI for submission to parliament for consideration. KEPSA will submit a private sector memorandum on the same after compiling proposals from its stakeholders.
