The launch aimed to create awareness and publicize the forthcoming Convention, which will be held from 21st to 25th November 2022 at the Diani Reef Beach.

Also Present included Eng. Erick Ohaga - President, IEK; Eng. Erastus Mwongera - Chairman, Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK); Eng. Jennifer Korir - IEK Council Member; Eng. In her keynote speech, the Chief Guest noted that the engineering sector cannot be delinked from environmental sustainability. She also said that it was important to acknowledge that engineering involves the art of harnessing the resources of nature for the benefit of society. "My Ministry will continue to work together with key sector players to ensure that we collectively put in place measures that will help mitigate this issue of sustainability in the long term," said Hon. Wahome.
IEK President noted that sustainable engineering is about using environmental resources in a way that does deplete them and that is why the theme of the upcoming Convention will help develop tangible solutions to mitigate climate change. "As engineers, we are here to provide solutions and the 29th IEK Convention is a great opportunity for us to discuss a way forward on how to combat the increasing effects of Climate Change," said Eng. Ohaga
In his remarks, Eng. James Mwangi appreciated this year’s theme, noting that the conversations on climate change was timely. He informed the meeting that the private sector, through KEPSA, has taken particular attention to this topic of Climate Change. He also noted that KEPSA is in full support of the IEK Convention and requested the private sector to participate in the event. IEK is a member of KEPSA.
“We have many private sector sponsors in this event, which is also a sign of how important the conversation is. As private sector, we know how climate change has a phenomenal impact on our businesses and therefore we are ready to partner in this conversation,” said Eng. Mwangi.
The theme of the forthcoming Convention will be "Sustainable Engineering in the Era of Climate Change". This comes just at the time that the world has converged in Egypt for the Conference of the Parties of the 7th United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27), where countries come together to take action towards achieving climate goals.
