KEPSA participated in a pre-conference breakfast meeting organised by Mt. Kenya University on 25th February 2022 at Nairobi Safari Club ahead of the 2nd International Conference on Peace, Security and Social Enterprise. The upcoming conference themed; The role of universities, public and private sectors in peacebuilding for socio-economic development, is aimed at providing a platform to dialogue and address pertinent issues on peace, security and social enterprise for sustainable development. It will seek to engage academia and other stakeholders on the significance of peace and political decency in the runup to the 2022 general elections.
In his opening remarks, the Pro-Chancellor of Mt. Kenya University who is also the KEPSA Education Sector Board Chairman, Dr Vincent Gaitho, highlighted the critical role of values and youth in driving peace for socioeconomic development and academic impact. He added that trust is very key in fostering peace.
The pre-conference activities include peace walks, peace webinars among other dialogue mechanisms. Dr Gaitho extended an invitation to partners in organising the conference that is scheduled to take place on 18th – 20th May 2022 at Mt. Kenya University.
Ms Ivy Mumo of KEPSA expounded on the Mkenya Daima initiative, a non-partisan multi-stakeholder platform that was launched in 2012 with a primary purpose to inspire Kenyans towards peaceful elections and smooth transition, creating stability which is essential for businesses continuity and prosperity for Kenya as a nation.
The chief guest, Peace Ambassador Tecla Lorupe gave a rallying call on the pillars of peace that include forgiveness, wisdom and education. “Kenya is my country, if I contribute to destroying it, where will I go?” She posed “Let’s uphold our country, it is our home, let’s endeavour to live in harmony within our family, our neighbourhood, in the community, environment including our wildlife. We all need each other. We are going to elections this year, let’s unite our country.” She remarked.
Other key guests include Rev. Dr Samwel Kobia – Chairman of National Cohesion and Integration, H.E Martin Moshisho – Deputy Governor of Kajiado County, KEPSA Education Sector Board members; academia, NGO council, private sector and other stakeholders from all sectors of the economy.
