KEPSA MEETS WITH THE SPEAKER OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY

On Thursday, 24th November 2022, KEPSA, led by the CEO Ms. Carole Kariuki, held a meeting with Hon. Moses Masika Wetangula, EGH, MP, the Speaker of the National Assembly (NA) with an aim of setting out KEPSA’s legislative agenda with the 13th Parliament.
Also in attendance from KEPSA was Ms. Brenda Mbathi, member – the KEPSA Policy Programs and Resource Mobilization (PPRM) board commitee and Ms. Agatha Juma, Head of Public-Private Dialogue (PPD), Mr. Patrick Wandare, Legal Officer and Boniface Mutinda, Communications officer.
From the National Assembly, the Speaker was accompanied by Mr. Samuel J. Njoroge, Clerk of the National Assembly, Rose Mudibo, Director at the NA Speaker’s office, Steve Apopo, NA Chief of Staff, among others.
It was agreed that:
- KEPSA and the National Assembly will have a roundtable meeting in February 2023, with the Speaker, the Deputy Speaker and Chairpersons of the National Assembly Departmental Committees.
- KEPSA and the National Assembly will have a roundtable meeting with all Members of Parliament in October/November 2023.
- The National Assembly, through the Office of the Clerk, to write to KEPSA on Bills that touch on multiple sectors of the private sector for the KEPSA to give input.
- There’s a need to attract business into the country through a proper regulatory framework and environment and thus need for the National Assembly to engage the Regulators on this mandate.
- The National Assembly will prioritize the pending bills that lapsed in the 12th Parliament and which are of interest to the private sector.
