On 2nd June 2022, KEPSA, led by Mr. Harrison Ngatia – Head of Projects; Ms. Joyner Okonjo – KEPSA Legal Advisor and Mr. Patrick Wandare – KEPSA Legal Officer, held a meeting with the Nairobi Centre for International Arbitration (NCIA) led by the Registrar/CEO, Mr. Lawrence M. Ngugi.
The meeting was aimed at exploring and discussing possible areas of collaboration and partnership between KEPSA and the Mediation Accreditation Committee (MAC) in order to increase sensitization among KEPSA members on Mediation as an alternative dispute resolution mechanism. This was one of the key resolutions from the last KEPSA – Chief Justice Roundtable Roundtable meeting held on 15th March 2022.
NCIA is established under the Nairobi Centre for International Arbitration Act, 2013 as a regional centre for international commercial arbitration and the Arbitral Court and to provide mechanisms for Alternative Dispute Resolution.
KEPSA and MAC – with support from the NCIA – will create a forum through which KEPSA members can have their private Mediation Settlement Agreements adopted in court(s). Mediation is a cost and time-effective method of dispute resolution, a huge contributor to the ease and reduction in the cost of doing business.
