KEPSA, led by the Chair Mr Jas Bedi, is leading the Kenyan private sector in the two-day Kenya-Mozambique Business Forum which kicked off yesterday in Maputo, Mozambique. The forum, which aims to bring together business executives and trade facilitation institutions from Kenya and Mozambique to explore prospective business opportunities, is being held on the sidelines of H.E. President William Ruto’s State visit to the country hosted by his counterpart H.E President Filipe Nyusi.
On 10th August 2023, the two Heads of State witnessed the signing of eight MoUs aimed at strengthening the ties between Kenya and Mozambique. The cooperation agreements include mutual legal assistance, diplomatic training, public service training, investment promotion, blue economy and the mutual recognition of driving licences.
President Ruto committed to the full and speedy implementation of the agreements for the benefit of the people of the two nations. “I am of the view that it is imperative for us to take advantage of the momentum generated in these engagements to expeditiously implement all the bilateral instruments that have been signed,” he said.
“As a country, we reiterate our commitment and interest to continue working with the Government of the Republic of Kenya,” said President Nyusi who also appreciated Kenya’s support in various aspects, notably ensuring Mozambique is President of the UN Security Council in March 2023.
The visit features high-level engagements with State officials, field visits and Business meetings (B2B) with around 60 Mozambican companies interested in deepening partnerships and exploring business and investment opportunities with their Kenyan counterparts. The B2B forum aims to improve trade and investments as well as bring to light more information available on opportunities between the two nations.
Yesterday, business leaders of 22 Kenyan companies from different sectors, with emphasis on the extractive industry, manufacturing industry, tourism, construction, energy, agribusiness, banking, transport and logistics, visited the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA). CTA is the official partner of Dialogue with Government, representing the Private Sector and working towards a better business environment in Mozambique, through the promotion of economic and regulatory reforms.
