On 22nd June 2022, KEPSA Industrialization and Trade Sector Board held an engagement with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Inland Container Depot Nairobi (ICDN) team, led by the station manager. The meeting deliberated on how the team could facilitate businesses at the facility.
The engagement tackled a number of challenges including the frequent KRA system challenges with numerous downtimes leading to a resort to manual documentation, lack of coordination between KRA and other trade facilitation agencies at ICDN on KRA programs such as the Authorized Economic Operator, delayed clearance and increased costs as a result of system failures among others.
The engagement saw a commitment by the KRA team to address some of these challenges in the shortest time possible including dedicating enough resources and enhancing coordination with the other agencies. Notably, the meeting agreed on a continuous engagement and requested for KEPSA to have a designated officer to act as the liaison for ICDN matters including timely relay of information pertaining to any changes.
