The Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) today inaugurated the two-day Siaya edition of the Jiinue Growth Program at The Candela Hotel, bringing together two cohorts of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) for an intensive Investor Readiness training workshop. A total of 72 SMEs from the region participated, underscoring the ongoing KEPSA commitment to foster the growth of local businesses through tailored support and capacity building.
Mr. Harrison Ngatia, KEPSA Chief SME & Enterprise Development Officer, in his opening remarks highlighted the trends of funding cycles in business growth. "The more you pay, the more support you’ll receive," he emphasized, encouraging entrepreneurs to embrace financial discipline as a key to unlocking greater opportunities. He also addressed the loan application process, noting that businesses may not always receive the full amount they apply for. "For instance, if you apply for a loan of KSh 14 million, getting the full amount is dependent on the business capacity to repay, based on an assessment of your financial statements and the KYC (Know Your Customer) processes. This approach ensures the loan is manageable and doesn't strain your business," he explained.
Addressing a common concern from SMEs, June, KEPSA SME Technical Assistance Officer, reassured participants that businesses with existing loans can still qualify for the Jiinue Growth Program loan. However, she emphasized, "If your existing loans are overwhelming your business to the point of financial strain, we may not fund you at that moment. Our goal is to support growth, not burden you further.”
Mr. Ngatia finally highlighted the program’s competitive loan offering, which has an interest rate of less than 10% per annum, positioning it as one of the most affordable options in the market. "We are proud to provide SMEs with access to financing at favorable rates, to ensure that you have the resources needed to expand your operations and achieve sustainable growth," he added.
With the Siaya training now underway, KEPSA continues to play a pivotal role in enhancing the entrepreneurial landscape in the country.
