KEPSA held a mental wellness session and a full medical camp on May 31, 2024, for its staff and their families. This event, organized in partnership with Jubilee Insurance and Antara Health, coincides with Mental Health Awareness Month, observed every May. This month-long observance aims to spotlight mental health issues and combat the associated stigmas.
The mental wellness session focused on raising awareness about mental health issues, misconceptions, and the importance of early intervention. The session also discussed the connection between mental health and productivity; importance of self-reflection and seeking feedback from others to better understand one’s competencies and areas for improvement; self-awareness, self-regulation, and the consequences of isolating oneself from social support structures.
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines mental health as a state of mental well-being that enables individuals to cope with the stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn and work effectively, and contribute to their community. Mental health has both intrinsic and instrumental value, integral to our overall well-being.
KEPSA’s initiative, in collaboration with Jubilee Insurance and Antara Health, reflects a growing recognition of the importance of mental health in the workplace. By providing resources and support for mental well-being, KEPSA is setting a positive example for other organizations. As the world marks Mental Health Awareness Month, events like these are essential in promoting mental health awareness and reducing stigma, ensuring that mental health becomes a priority for all.
