KEPSA through its Health Sector Board – the Kenya Healthcare Federation (KHF), handed over Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) donation to the County Government of Kajiado on 21st April 2021. The PPEs were donated by Manu Chandaria Foundation through the Kenya Covid-19 Fund as a contribution towards Covid-19 mitigation efforts.
The donation was received by Kajiado County Deputy Governor H.E. Martin Moshisho together with Kajiado CEC for Health Ms. Esther Somoire and other county government officials. The KEPSA team was led by KEPSA Deputy CEO Ms. Martha Cheruto together with KHF CEO Dr. Anastasia Nyalita and KEPSA PPD Specialist Mr. Patrick Maingi.
Kajiado was the first of the three selected counties to benefit from the Kshs. 5 Million worth of PPE donations, others being Machakos and Mombasa. The PPEs will be distributed to various Public, Faith-Based, and Private-led health facilities in the 3 counties towards Covid-19 pandemic mitigation.
Speaking during the handing over at the Kajiado County Health offices, the Deputy Governor expressed his gratitude to KEPSA while commending the private sector consistency in supporting the counties to respond to the pandemic. Ms. Somoire also shared the same sentiments by acknowledging the immense support the county has received from the private sector over the years, especially during the pandemic.
The KEPSA Deputy CEO expressed the need to strengthen the cooperation between KEPSA and the county, not only in matters of health but also in other sectors. Ms. Cheruto highlighted the MSMEs mentorship and E-commerce Booster programs among other KEPSA initiatives towards mitigating the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The KEPSA team proceeded to the County Government of Machakos on 22nd April 2021. While receiving the donation, the Governor of Machakos County H.E Dr. Alfred Mutua thanked the private sector for the great work they are doing to save lives. He also called on all Kenyans to take personal responsibility by strictly observing the Covid-19 guideline to curb the impacts of the pandemic.
Ms. Cheruto said that the Covid-19 pandemic has revealed the importance of the partnership between private and public sectors. She outlined other initiatives that KEPSA has established in response to the Covid-19 pandemic including the 1196 call centre and the ‘Wheels For Life’ to support pregnant women during curfew hours. Ms. Cheruto also reaffirms KEPSA’s continued support in the fight against Covid-19.
