On 21st March 2024, KEPSA Foundation and ChildFund Kenya formalised their partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This MoU serves to strengthen the collaboration between the two organizations, highlighting their shared dedication to addressing social challenges and promoting sustainable development initiatives in Kenya. Through this agreement, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to working together towards common goals, leveraging their respective expertise and resources to make a positive impact on communities across the country.
KEPSA Foundation was led by its Board of Trustees Chairperson, Mr. Patrick Obath, Executive Director Ms. Gloria Ndekei, and Trustees Arch. Lee Karuri and Ms. Mumbi Keega while ChildFund Kenya was led by the Country Director, Ms. Alice Anukur and Partnership and Portfolio Manager, Ms. Caroline Ngonge.
Ms. Anukur while appreciating the critical milestone marked by partnering with KEPSA Foundation, highlighted that ChildFund Kenya focuses on multifaceted approaches by collaborating with various other local partner organizations to implement projects in 27 counties and targeting 7.5 million children and families in Kenya. These initiatives target children through early childhood and education interventions and build livelihood skills for youth in urban and rural areas while seeking to improve healthcare access and address the challenges posed by climate change.
Mr. Obath on his part underscored the importance of establishing strong collaborations that focus on co-creation of interventions thus fulfilling the spirit of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 17. He noted that through the partnership, ChildFund can leverage the rich membership of KEPSA to advance its agenda given the values of the two organizations align.
Ms. Ndekei provided an overview of KEPSA Foundation noting its focus on providing a platform for Socio-economic impact for the private sector as underpinned by the key principles of responsible investments and the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG). She highlighted the four Foundation priority areas namely; Governance, Women &men Empowerment, Leadership and Childcare, Climate Action and Sustainability, and Community Outreach, Networks and Partnership. She highlighted the immediate opportunity for KEPSA Foundation to partner with ChildFund in the implementation of Kijani initiative and Regreening Africa Projects under the two organizations respectively, a follow up of the drought response initiative undertaken in Mbeere, Embu County in 2023.
Ms. Keega highlighted that in 2016, Dow Chemicals initiated a partnership with ChildFund in Ethiopia focusing on an investment in the communities. She further expressed optimism with the partnership's potential to achieve a wider community impact. Following the signing of the of the MoU, Dow Chemicals through ChildFund committed a seed investment of $12,000 towards the Kijani initiative.
Arch. Karuri noted that the synergies and partnership between the two organisations would yield social impacts of business investment, by leveraging strengths through aligned objectives. He thanked the two organizations developing the MOU to completion which gave a structured framework for carrying out projects.
