On May 28, 2024, the KEPSA Foundation in partnership with ChildFund, planted over 100 moringa trees at St. Dominic Primary School Mwiki, Nairobi County. ChildFund, through the Re-Greening Africa Project, has targeted 600 students across 20 schools in Nairobi, Kajiado and Makueni Counties to establish indigenous and fruit tree gardens, planting 1,000 trees in each school.
In her remarks, Ms. Caroline Ngonge, Partnership Portfolio Manager at ChildFund, noted that the project serves as a sustainable income-generating enterprise and a learning center to promote the project's replication and sustainability. Additionally, the initiative aims to build resilience to climate change vulnerabilities and provide financial management training for the students through the Environment Clubs.
Ms. Susan Ng’ang’a, Administrative Officer at KEPSA Foundation emphasized the importance of students taking ownership of the project and becoming champions of climate change within their schools and communities.
The event was also graced by the presence of the school Headteacher, Ms. Lucy Wamugo, who expressed gratitude to the partners for their excellent initiative in greening the school. Additionally, Mr. Timothy Mutua, Patron of the Environmental Club, attended along with Environmental Club students and teachers.
