On 14th November 2023, KEPSA Foundation led by the Executive Director, Ms. Gloria Ndekei held a meeting with ChildFund Kenya at their Westlands Office. The meeting aimed at exploring possible areas of collaboration between the two organisations. The ChildFund team was led by the Africa Regional Director Mr Chege Ngugi and Kenya Country Director, Ms Alice Anukur.
In her remarks, Ms Ndekei appreciated the ChildFund team for their support through Dow Chemicals in response to the humanitarian situation occasioned by the drought experienced in the country in the last quarter of 2022 and early 2023. Towards this, KEPSA Foundation undertook a countryside drive centered on resilience against drought in Embu County in June 2023.
Speaking on the priority areas of KEPSA Foundation, Ms Ndekei noted that there were numerous opportunities that both organisations could collaborate on while leveraging on the strengths of each other. Among the areas of potential partnership, she highlighted that through the Better Business Practices for Children Initiative, KEPSA Foundation is developing a hybrid-chama program to guide women groups as champions of optimal nutrition and childcare. She further highlighted the Kijani program that aims to mobilize schools for Climate Action and Resilience through establishing orchards that not only serve to protect the environment but also become a source of nutrition to the learners and staff and serve as an alternative source of income to the schools thus contributing to food security.
On his part, Mr Ngugi noted that ChildFund has international and regional operations including in 9 African Countries. He highlighted that ChildFund works to impact children through advocacy and programming to ensure healthy and secure infants, educated and confident children, skilled and involved youth. He further noted that ChildFund is focused on scaling child-centred programs, influencing the child development ecosystem and growing capabilities to scale impact by working through local implementing partners.
The two organisations agreed to develop a memorandum of understanding to highlight areas of collaboration.
