On 30th June 2023, KEPSA Foundation, led by the Executive Director Ms. Gloria Ndekei, in partnership with Embu County leadership, led by Senator Hon. Munyi Alexander Mundigi, stepped out in the countryside for a drive centred on resilience against the backdrop of drought challenges plaguing parts of Embu County.
This drive assisted over 600 residents of Makima Ward in Embu County with food and cash. The group included the sick, people living with disability, and the aged. The visit was in response to the situation in the community where residents did not have enough harvest due to failed rainy season.
In her remarks, Ms. Ndekei appreciated the partnership between the KEPSA Foundation and the leadership of Embu County. She reiterated the importance of peace and working together in sustainable development. She also called on the youth to unite to build the community and heed such calls.
Senator Hon. Mundigi on his part thanked KEPSA Foundation for the initiative and encouraged people to among other things, prepare for the next planting season and plant cotton, miraa and green peas as cash crops in the area. He also cautioned the residents not to sell the little they harvested which should assist them to feed their families and look for other ways to educate their children.
The drive also brought on board the Member of County Assembly (MCA) of Makima Ward, Hon. Philip Nzangi together with other local administrators. Hon Nzangi noted that the perennial drought issues can be mitigated by employing irrigation farming since the community has fertile soil. He subsequently called on the Government to assist the residents in the area with irrigation water. He also urged the Government to act on environmental protection.
All the stakeholders involved committed to hold more initiatives to improve the welfare of the people in Embu County.
