On 12th April 2023, KEPSA represented by the Economic Diplomacy Sector Board Chair – Mr James Mureu held a meeting with a delegation from Woolworths, South Africa in Nairobi.
The engagement revolved around exchanging trade and investment opportunities present in Kenya and South Africa as well as how KEPSA and Woolworths will collaborate to spur relations and opportunities that will bolster the economy between the two countries.
Mr. Mureu addressing the South African delegates stressed the need for a more collaborative approach to business between the two countries. He also pointed out that KEPSA is working to identify and realise an enabling environment that will deliver Kenya's global competitiveness.
The meeting culminated with an agreement on strengthening firm-level productive capacities and value chains in key growth sectors including agriculture, light manufacturing, tourism and the creative industry.
During the presidential visit of President Cyril Ramaphosa to Kenya in November 2022, Kenya and South Africa had resolved to eliminate trade barriers between the two countries to spur trade.
The leaders further agreed that Kenyans holding ordinary passports will be allowed to enter South Africa on a visa-free regime of up to 90 days per calendar year.
The visit also saw a signing of the three memoranda of understanding and one agreement on cooperation in the field of correctional services, and cooperation in the field of housing and human settlement.
