On 31^st January 2025, the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) participated in the Environment and Land Court Court Users Committee (ELC CUC) and Judiciary Dialogue Day held at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi. The event brought together key players in the justice sector, fostering discussions on enhancing judicial services, strengthening collaboration, and ensuring a people-centred approach to justice.

The session was attended by justice system stakeholders including the Judiciary, the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the Office of the Attorney General, Kenya Police Service, Kenya Prisons Service, Directorate of Children Services, Probation and Aftercare representatives, Mediation representatives, and members of the public.

The key highlights were: -

• The Judiciary emphasized the importance of efficient judicial processes and services, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening relationships with stakeholders and maintaining continuous engagement with the public.
• The ODPP representative underscored the need for a people-centred prosecution approach, stressing the significance of performance management, adherence to legal standards, and achieving greater efficiency within the criminal justice system. The role of the prosecution in upholding constitutional mandates and serving the public interest was also highlighted.
• The Kenya Prisons representative reinforced the institution’s commitment to rehabilitation and justice under the theme "Rekebisha na Haki" (Reform with Justice), emphasizing the importance of correctional programs that align with human rights and justice principles.
• Mediation was recognized as an essential alternative dispute resolution mechanism, with its inclusivity and people-centred approach seen as valuable in reducing case backlogs and enhancing access to justice.
• Public representatives raised concerns about access to court services, the availability of information, and the need for alternative dispute-resolution mechanisms. They also emphasized the importance of public sensitization to increase awareness and engagement with judicial processes.

The engagement reinforced the importance of a responsive and accessible judicial system. Stakeholders acknowledged that justice delivery requires close collaboration between the Judiciary, justice sector institutions, and the public. The commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring a transparent, efficient, and people-centred justice system remains a shared priority.
