KEPSA, led by the CEO, Ms Carole Kariuki, on 3rd August 2022 held a meeting with the Water Sector Trust Fund (WaterFund), represented by the Chair Mr Bill Lay and the CEO Mr Willis Ombai. Discussions during the meeting focused on areas of partnership that would make use of the public-private discourse. More particularly with the KEPSA Environment, Water and Natural Resources Sector Board, the goal is to forward the conversation on advocacy.
Since its usage is connected to all sectors, water is seen as an enabler more so for the manufacturing industry and consequently, economic growth. In this regard, the two institutions decided to work together in three areas including resource mobilization, advocacy and enhancing access to finance.
The inclusion of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in private sector organizations' goals will increase participation in initiatives including Integrated Water Resource Management as part of KEPSA's focus on sustainability.
Ms Kariuki noted that the two organisations will collaborate on initiatives that connect the efforts of the business sector to the country's blueprint under Vision 2030 through KEPSA's social arm and in particular, with the Sustainable Inclusive Business (SIB-K) program.
Through the Climate Business Information Network, KEPSA is also eager to assist the private sector in developing its adaptation and mitigation strategies. A top priority area for ensuring that the private sector fulfils its responsibility in the industrial sector's wastewater treatment is the adoption of innovation.
