Today, on September 24th, 2024, the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) marked another milestone in its efforts to uplift small businesses by continuing its Nairobi Investor Readiness training workshop, held at Best Western Hotel. This session, part of the ongoing Jiinue Growth Program, brought together 37 Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) with the goal of enhancing their capacity to attract investors and scale their businesses. The training was facilitated by experts in the field: Alfred Warui, Brian Munaita, Benson Ndegwa, and Mrs. Pauline Kieme. The workshop equipped the participants with the essential skills needed to grow their businesses.
Ms. June Mwangi, KEPSA's Technical Assistance Lead, kicked off the workshop with an insightful introduction to KEPSA and its initiatives. She highlighted the role of KEPSA in advocating for the private sector to create an enabling environment for businesses to grow. During her remarks, Ms. Mwangi stressed the importance of understanding the program's focus areas, and her clear explanations helped the entrepreneurs see how the Jiinue Growth Program can empower SMEs by providing technical and financial support, not only through affordable loan products but also to strengthen their operations for sustainable growth.
Participants also reflected on valuable takeaways from the training. One major insight was the critical role of record-keeping in understanding business performance. As they noted, "You might be doing well, but aren’t realizing it. If you can’t clearly describe your business, then we term it an expensive hobby." Without accurate records, and clarity on your business value proposition, entrepreneurs often mistake activity for progress.
