On 8th February 2022, KEPSA Education Sector Board leaders met at KEPSA offices, where they discussed extensively on the strategic positioning of the sector and the significant role the sector plays in peace building and development of human capital for sustainable development in the country and beyond. The leaders reviewed the ongoing policy reforms including implementation of the competency-based curriculum, the role of private sector in increasing access, enhancing quality and equity for all as enshrined in the constitution.
It was observed that there had been increased access and opportunities in transitioning to the university since the introduction of placement of government sponsored students to private universities. With the oncoming double intake of students to the university and high school from the 8.4.4. system and new CBC curriculum in December 2022, the private sector will play a critical role in increasing opportunities for access and smooth transition of learners. The public system will not be able to absorb all the students. It was therefore imperative that an engagement framework is formalized between private sector and government to ensure smooth transition.
The leaders also noted that higher education levels should tap into the open distance and electronic learning (ODEL) platforms for delivery of university education. The leaders also discussed areas of focus for the year 2022 at all levels of education and the critical role of education in peace building especially during this electioneering period. The meeting was Chaired by the Sector Board Chair Dr. Vincent Gaitho.
