On Thursday, 17th March 2022, KEPSA CEO Ms. Carole Kariuki met with a delegation from the leather industry led by the Chairman of Kenya Leather Development Council Mr. Francis Munywoki and Dr. PVS Rao of Alpharama Ltd.
The meeting discussed opportunities for unlocking the potential of the Leather value chain to grow the economy and create jobs. It was agreed that KEPSA will work closely with the sector to fully understand its challenges and opportunities and then proceed together, implementing the roadmap towards making Kenyan Leather and Leather products globally competitive.
The leather sector in Kenya is estimated to be worth over Sh50 billion annually. Unfortunately, exporting raw hides and skins has denied the country billions of shillings in direct earnings and thousands of job opportunities.
