Security is one of the most important considerations for both local and foreign investors including leisure sectors like tourism in a country. Investments and reforms made targeting the sector contribute to the global competitiveness of a country.

On 6^th February 2023, the KEPSA CEO Ms Carole Kariuki who is also the Vice Chair of the Presidential Taskforce on National Police Service and Kenya Prisons Service embarked on public hearings and field visits together with the Chairman Chief Justice (Rtd.) David Maraga and part of the taskforce in Garissa. Other members of the Taskforce left for different parts of the country to ensure the Taskforce covers the 47 counties.

In the week ending 3^rd February 2023, the Taskforce received written and oral submissions from the police and prisons at all levels including retired officers, other government institutions, private sector and civil society key institutions, and will continue to receive written submissions from organizations and individuals as the team proceeds to the counties for public hearings these next two weeks.

While in Garissa, they were received at Garissa Airstrip and led to Modika Border Patrol Base. They met with different cadres of the different units of police both from Kenya Police and Administration Police and surveyed their working and living facilities on their unique issues serving in the Northern Eastern frontier, especially with the changing face of terrorism being homegrown and therefore the major work being done by the police around and within the borders of the country.

They further went to the Garissa main prison and had an exchange with both the female and male inmates who aired their grievances and proposals as well as the different cadre officers of the prison. The team later surveyed the accommodation facilities for the members of the officers and those of the inmates.
