On 11th November 2024, the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) was honoured to participate in a significant event celebrating 60 years of diplomatic relations between Kenya and the Nordic countries. Hosted at the Swedish Ambassador’s Residence, this occasion brought together key stakeholders to acknowledge the longstanding and fruitful partnership between Kenya and the Nordic nations, including Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark. The event was an opportunity to reflect on the past, celebrate present collaborations, and look toward the future of Nordic-Kenyan relations.
KEPSA was represented by the CEO Ms. Carole Kariuki and Head of KEPSA Consult, Circular Economy & Climate Change Consult Dr. Jackson Koimbori. Ms. Kariuki's leadership has been instrumental in steering KEPSA’s engagement with both local and international stakeholders while Dr. Koimbori's deep expertise in climate change and sustainability has positioned KEPSA as a key player in promoting sustainable business practices. Their presence at the event further reinforced KEPSA’s commitment to fostering strong partnerships with the Nordic countries, particularly in the areas of climate change, circular economy, and sustainable business.
KEPSA has had the privilege of working collaboratively with Nordic countries over the past two decades. This long-standing relationship has been marked by shared values, particularly in the areas of sustainability, innovation, and development. Through various initiatives, including joint programs and policy advocacy, KEPSA has been able to bring together businesses, government, and international partners to address pressing challenges such as climate change, energy transition, and sustainable development. The 60th anniversary celebration served as a reminder of the successful collaborations and mutual support that have defined this partnership over the years.
The event also provided a valuable platform for KEPSA representatives to engage with ambassadors from the Nordic countries and other distinguished guests. Among the distinguished diplomats present were H.E. Ms. Caroline Vicini, Ambassador of Sweden to Kenya; H.E. Mr. Pirkka Tapiola, Ambassador of Finland to Kenya; H.E. Mr. Gunnar Andreas Holm, Ambassador of Norway to Kenya; and H.E. Mr. Stephan Schönemann, Ambassador of Denmark to Kenya. These ambassadors have played key roles in strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between their countries and Kenya, and their participation in the event allowed for meaningful dialogue on expanding collaborative efforts in various sectors, including business, trade, and innovation.
In addition to the diplomatic discussions, the reception offered a light-hearted and engaging atmosphere, complete with Kenyan humour and Nordic-Kenyan music. A stand-up comedian provided a fun take on the Nordic lifestyle from a Kenyan perspective, while a DJ set the mood with a mix of music that celebrated the cultural exchange between the two regions. This blend of diplomacy, culture, and entertainment made for a memorable evening and a fitting celebration of the enduring relationship between Kenya and the Nordic countries.
As KEPSA continues to play an integral role in shaping Kenya's private sector landscape, the event underscored the importance of maintaining and expanding international partnerships. With a focus on sustainable business practices and climate action, KEPSA’s collaboration with the Nordic countries is poised to drive positive change in Kenya's economic and environmental future. The 60th anniversary celebration was not just a moment to reflect on the past, but also an opportunity to reaffirm KEPSA's commitment to building a more sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous future for Kenya through continued collaboration with the Nordic nations.
