On 27th July 2023, KEPSA CEO Ms Carole Kariuki met with the Director National Counter Terrorism Center (NCTC), Dr Rosalind Nyawira, at the KEPSA offices. Also present was the Head of Public-Private Dialogue (PPD), Ms Agatha Juma, KEPSA Legal Advisor Ms Joyner Okonjo and Mr. Bryan Ndichu, PPD Officer, alongside officers from the National Counter Terrorism Center.
The meeting aimed to renew the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two entities, first signed in October 2019.
In her remarks, Ms Kariuki appreciated NCTC for the lasting partnership, which was first realized in 2017 and then culminated in the MOU signed in 2019. She added that as a result of the partnership, both entities have been engaged in a series of partnerships and that the two should communicate more on the wins realized from the partnership and how both entities have benefitted from the same.
In her remarks, Dr Nyawira thanked KEPSA for the continued partnership in the fight against terrorism. She also noted a technological gap that needs interventions by the private sector, especially with emerging technologies. She acknowledged that the private sector has taken lead in technology globally and locally, and thus it can use its resources to collaborate with Government on how to mitigate the gaps that come with new and emerging technologies.
She concluded by noting that ICT is an essential factor in the fight against terrorism, and with the recent cyber threats being experienced, it is essential to partner and build capacity to ensure that no one is left behind.
