The Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) and the Kenya Climate Innovation Centre (KCIC) are exploring a strategic partnership designed to significantly accelerate climate entrepreneurship in Kenya. In a meeting held today, 24th June 2025, the two organisations deliberated on how to unlock a wealth of climate-smart business opportunities for private enterprises, fostering an environment where environmental stewardship and economic prosperity go hand in hand.
The KEPSA delegation was led by CEO Ms Carole Kariuki, accompanied by Dr. Jackson Koimbori, Head of KEPSA Consult, Circular Economy and Climate Change. Representing KCIC were CEO Mr Joseph Murabula and Director of Client Services, Mr Felix Magaju.
KEPSA’s CEO proposed the establishment of a dedicated "Deal Room" aligned with KCIC’s proposed Green Transition Programme. This Deal Room would enable structured partnerships and provide a platform for private sector players to engage in climate innovation projects. The overall objective is to develop practical, scalable solutions that contribute to Kenya’s sustainability agenda while generating green jobs and investment opportunities.
On his part, Mr Murabula emphasised the importance of developing a tailored approach to support startups and MSMEs, helping them scale up and deliver climate innovations that can benefit larger companies and the broader economy. He noted that KCIC currently supports only about 7% of the total private sector landscape. With KEPSA’s extensive reach, there is a major opportunity to unlock the remaining 93% of businesses not yet engaged in climate innovation support programs.
Additionally, KEPSA expressed interest in partnering with KCIC through KEPSA Consult to co-develop various program packages under a cost-sharing model. This collaboration aims to leverage the strengths and networks of both organizations, creating scalable, impactful initiatives that foster inclusive green growth. Together, KEPSA and KCIC seek to provide an enabling environment for businesses in Kenya—and across Africa—to lead in the fight against climate change while driving sustainable economic development.
