ICC KENYA ENVIRONMENT AND ENERGY COMMISSION ENGAGES PRIVATE SECTOR LEADERS ON THE E-MOBILITY TECHNICAL PAPER

The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Kenya Environment and Energy Commission held an engagement with a delegation of private sector leaders in the e-mobility industry on the 22nd of March 2023 at the KEPSA offices. The agenda of the meeting was to get brief insights and arrive at a consensus on the technical paper to be submitted to the National Treasury.
The meeting began with a brief introduction of ICC Kenya by the Commission chair Mr Julius Opio, who also highlighted the commission’s key programs which include:
- E-Mobility & Charging Infrastructure
- Renewable Energy
- Circular Economy
- Climate Action
- Green Financing
- Carbon Credits and Monetization
Some of the key thematic areas discussed in the meeting include:
- Regulations for the sub-sector – players are unclear and concerned.
- Electricity tariff has not been clearly defined.
- Show benefit to the government. Balance the ask for the gain.
- Oil marketing companies – license to generate sell power.
The forum was a follow-up to the meeting held with Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u, Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning on the 16th of March 2023 at the Treasury Building, Nairobi Kenya.
