On 9th March 2022, KEPSA through the Education Sector Board participated in the Ministry of Education – State Department of Vocational-Technical Training on Kenya Chapter for Better Education for Africa’s Rise (BEAR II) project handover of policy documents and publications to the State Department for implementation. They include the Open Distance and Electronic Learning (ODeL) policy, Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Policy framework, Career Guidance and Counselling Framework, and Quality Assurance Manuals.
The handover was done by Prof Hubert Gijzen Regional Director UNESCO Regional Office for Eastern Africa and KOH Jae Myong Deputy Head of Mission Korean Embassy in Kenya and received by Dr Margaret Mwakima, Principal Secretary State Department of Vocational and Technical Training, Ministry of Education. Dr Mwakima applauded the BEAR II Project team composed of the Ministry of Education, the Private Sector, TVET Institutions among other stakeholders for their ability to deliver the project goals and objectives.
The Better Education for Africa’s Rise II project (BEAR II) implemented since the year 2017 is a joint initiative of UNESCO and the Republic of Korea to cooperate with five countries of Eastern Africa – Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Tanzania, and Uganda to improve the relevance, quality and perception of the Training Vocational Education and Training (TVET) systems. The BEAR II project will reinforce the ongoing efforts of the government and support the development of career advice early on.
