The Gender Champions Quarterly Forum, held to support KEPSA’s new Business Strategy (2023-2027) on strengthening gender mainstreaming across sector boards, brought together 41 gender champions—36 female and 5 male—representing sectors including Education, Energy, ICT, and more. This forum aimed to advance gender equality through advocacy, policy development, capacity building, and collaboration.
Key Objectives included assessing what has been achieved in gender mainstreaming within sector boards, facilitating discussions to create actionable plans for further advancing gender equality, encouraging the exchange of experiences, challenges, and success stories among champions among others.
Gloria Ndekei, Executive Director, KEPSA Foundation: Highlighted the momentum gained through KEPSA’s Gender Equality initiatives and called for further collaboration among champions to push forward impactful gender mainstreaming programs.
Elizabeth Layla Kimkung, Managing Director, Freight Forwarders Kenya Ltd: Emphasized the importance of identifying opportunities and best practices for gender mainstreaming in the private sector, urging champions to advocate for inclusive policies that benefit all.
Tabbie Kioko, Diversity & Inclusion Lead, Safaricom PL: Shared insights on implementing effective diversity and inclusion interventions in the private sector, showcasing successful case studies that demonstrate the impact of these initiatives.
Jackline Malomba, KAWBO, Provided valuable lessons from the private sector's gender journey, emphasizing the importance of learning from both successes and challenges to drive meaningful change.
The forum successfully enhanced the capabilities of gender champions, fostered a supportive network, and equipped participants with the tools necessary to drive gender mainstreaming initiatives within their sectors. The collaborative spirit and shared commitment to gender equality were palpable, setting a strong foundation for future efforts.
