On 23rd July 2024, the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA), represented by the Global Director- Youth, Jobs and Ajira Digital, Dr Ehud Gachugu and Dual TVET Project officer, Ms Collette Brenda paid a courtesy call to the Kenya Property Development Association (KPDA), which was led by their CEO, Mr. Vincent Mwango. The discussions focused on exploring collaboration opportunities between the two organizations to enhance the benefits for both KPDA members and KEPSA members.
The meeting emphasized the importance of fostering a synergistic relationship that can drive mutual growth and development within the property development; building and construction. A significant part of the dialogue was centred around the pressing need to invest in the upskilling of young people, particularly within the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) space.
Both KEPSA and KPDA recognize that a skilled workforce is crucial for the sustainable development of Kenya’s property market and the broader economy. As such, they are committed to working together to create initiatives that will provide young people with the necessary skills and training to thrive in the industry.
Key areas of potential collaboration include:
1. Industry-Academia Partnerships: Collaborating with TVET institutions to ensure that the curriculum is aligned with industry needs, thereby enhancing the employability of graduates.
2. Internship and Training Opportunities: Creating pathways for young people to gain hands-on experience through internships and apprenticeships with KPDA member companies.
3. Mentorship Programs: Implementing mentorship programs where experienced professionals from both KEPSA and KPDA can guide and support young people as they transition from education to employment.
This collaboration not only benefits the members of both organizations but also plays a vital role in the economic empowerment of the youth, ultimately driving the sustainable development of Kenya.
