KEPSA participated in the third edition of the KreAfrika Seminar that was held on 20th -24th November 2023 at Sarova Panafric Hotel in Nairobi. The initiative was launched by Senghor University in collaboration with the French Development Agency, TRACE Academia, and HEVA Fund, and aims to support and train professionals in Africa's cultural sector. KEPSA was represented by Ms. Carol Warui - Chair Sports, Arts & Culture Sector Board.
Ms. Carol Warui, in her remarks, expressed gratitude for the collaboration between KreAfrika and HEVA Fund. She highlighted the pivotal role played by the private sector and government in fostering the remarkable growth and transformation in Kenya's creative landscape over the past decade. Ms. Warui acknowledged the French government's catalytic role and Governor Sakaja's county government for creating conducive spaces for the thriving creative sector. She extended best wishes to the participants of the seminar, expressing KEPSA's commitment to actively supporting the Creative and Cultural Industries.
With a specific focus on both existing and future professionals in the Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI), the seminar brought together public, private, and associative actors. The program incorporates online training, networking, and on-site seminars, intending to equip participants with new skills, professional networks, and project development capabilities.
HEVA Fund, a key partner in the initiative, is a dedicated investment advisory and knowledge solutions group for the Eastern Africa region. Since its establishment in 2014, HEVA Fund has committed substantial resources to invest in over 100 creative businesses and projects, impacting more than 20,000 practitioners across various sectors.
The training program in Nairobi covers critical aspects of entrepreneurship and financing in the CCI, including ideation, cultural entrepreneurship in the African context, developing a creative entrepreneurial mindset, crafting innovative business plans, and understanding investment sources. The pedagogical approach involves interactive sessions, expert presentations, co-development activities, experience-sharing panels, and visits to relevant local businesses and institutions.
The initiative is set to elevate and empower the creative community, fostering a future where the arts drive not only cultural appreciation
