EMPOWERING SMES TO MAKE BETTER DECISIONS USING DATA

On 11th March 2022, Ajira Digital Program hosted an insightful webinar session for businesses discussing the Business Intelligence (BI) for SMEs where the experts Mr Dieudonné Mayi – Principal Data Engineer and Co-Founder Achilliad Business and Technology Consulting and Ms Mary Muchina – Microsoft Consultant explained the science of transforming data into actionable insights and how it can help entrepreneurs in improving decision making.
Mr Mayi began by asking the business leaders the key things to think through the conversation:
- What kind of data would your business need to analyze
- What’s the right technology to enable your business growth
- What are the best tools to use to drive BI activities within your business
- How will the BI technology investment contribute to your business’ bottom-line
- How do you store your data?
Ms Muchina elucidated that business leaders should start by first understanding the type of business they are in and then have the right skills in data mining; where to get the required data. This could be through observation on how consumers are engaging with the product, use of focus groups, questionnaires or even case studies. Depending on the level of growth of your business, then the business leader can explore available and affordable BI tools. For instance, a business could choose to use a data specialist or an application such as the AUNI App by Fastagger.
Engaging in the discussion, business leaders were reminded that business intelligence is not about having beautiful reports but those that can offer informed decisions.
