KEPSA participated in the Egypt-Kenya Business Forum on 7th March 2024 in Nairobi. The event brought together key stakeholders from both Kenya and Egypt to chart a way forward on mutual investment opportunities between the two countries.
Dr. Juma Mukhwana, the Principal Secretary for the State Department of Industry in the Ministry of Investments, Trade, and Industry (MITI), urged Egyptian businesses to invest in Kenya while pointing out the duty-free raw materials for production and also a duty-free market provided for by the East African Community (EAC) whose expansion to nine countries provides a bigger market base. He encouraged investors from the two countries to explore cooperation in areas such as technology, pharmaceuticals, livestock and tourism.
In her remarks, Ms. Brenda Mbathi - KEPSA Vice Chair said that KEPSA works very closely with the apex bodies in our neighbouring countries in the East African Community to ensure the business reforms are consistent and the private sector can trade and invest in the region with ease. “As the Kenyan private sector, we believe that the opportunities before us lie in the business-led Integration of Africa. We have seen African businesses integrating, driving the change and overcoming the barriers. Collectively, we must continue to support such integration and multinational expansion of businesses in Africa.” She added.
Mr. Essam El-Wakil, Independent Board of Directors & Chairman Board Risk Management Committee - Commercial International Bank, Kenya called upon investors to leverage the key cultural and economic ties shared by the two countries while recognizing Kenya's strategic location which makes her a key player in the African continent.
Key speakers during the event included Ms Joyce Njogu, Head of Consulting and Business Development, Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), Dr. Dahlia El-Hawary, Vice President of General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), and Dr. Sherif El-Gabaly, Chairman of PolyServe Group, Egypt.
The event featured B2B meetings and panel discussions on Successful Trade and Investment in Kenya; Infrastructure as a Key Enabler for Successful Trade and Investment in Kenya; and Towards a Food Secure Africa! Agriculture and Irrigation as a Driver to Economic Prosperity.
